Virtual high fives!

I’m so happy to be able to post this.  Not only is urban gardening something I’m passionate about, but 24 hours ago I accidentally locked myself out of this site.  I cleaned out my browser cookies and history, and low, logging into the site to post content and fix everything become impossible.

It seemed like I had about as much chance getting into the backend of UrbanGardenGuide.com as on the front page of the New York Times.

This was bad news. The site is in hardcore beta mode.  The copy needs heavy editing. The structure isn’t finalized. We’re about 1/10000th of the way there re- content. Meanwhile, folks around the world are starting to find the site and that first impression is critical! We aim to be a major utility for urban gardening and for that to happen we need to provide the best possible value; that means building the best possible urban gardening site.

Additionally, I’d spent much of the day talking to manufactures of some of the products we’re going to carry in our store and was feeling awesome about the quality we’ll be delivering.

Then the lockout.

I went on a very long run.  I calculated exactly how long it would take to rebuild the site. I took deep breaths.  I learned a lot more about computer coding. I cleaned my entire apartment.  I asked a lot of folks what felt like really stupid questions. I paced around. I spent quality time with my girlfriend. I lost sleep. I asked for help.

It was a long 24 hours, but I got it fixed.

Virtual high fives to Ian, Darran and Ismael!   There are so many great folks out there! Urban Garden Guide is inspired to be as helpful as possible, looking forward to building some interactive features into the site down the road!

12 Days Until Website Launch!

I’m so pumped to be getting this site off the ground! Learning how to build this website has hardened my belief that anyone can learn to become an expert urban gardener.

Urban Garden Guide is going to be here for you, twelve days until launch!

Life long learning and doing.

Exciting:

  1. Pulling together pages of awesome helpful gardening content, I  guess I have learned a lot over the years!
  2. Watched the sun rise while eating blueberry pancakes drinking coffee on the roof this morning
  3. Oxygen released by plants gives you energy – gotta get another one on my desk!

Nerve-racking:

  1. Need to get the store items up, just takes time to ensure everything really is the best quality
  2. My spelling is atrocious (card carrying dyslexic) and I’m embarrassed about sharing a beta site with all the spelling mistakes – you’ve been warned!
  3. Not sure what I’m going to do to pay next months rent,  stay tuned, I’ll make something work!
